Send Collection to Annotate

When sending a Collection to Annotate, the reason behind it is just as important as the feature.

Here are a few use cases:

Active supports the following ways to send a Collection to Annotate:

  • Send to Annotate: The Collection applies directly to the existing Annotate Project.
  • Bulk Classify: Applies Classification to all images/frames in a Collection, to the images/frames in an existing Annotate Project.
  • Create Dataset: A new Dataset is created in Encord with the option of creating a Project in Annotate with the Dataset attached to the Project.

Send to Annotate

All priorities, comments on individual frames/images, and the comment added for the Collection, are sent to the Annotate Project.

To send a Collection to Annotate:
  1. Log in to the Encord platform.
    The landing page for the Encord platform appears.

  2. Click Active in the main menu.
    The landing page for Active appears.

  3. Click the Project.
    The landing page for the Project appears with the Explorer tab selected.

  4. Click Collections.
    The Collections page appears.

  5. Select the checkbox for the Collection to send to Annotate.

  6. Click Send to Annotate.
    The Send to Annotate dialog appears.

  7. Specify the following:

    • Adjust priority of tasks: Specifies the priority of all the images/frames in the Collection, when the images/frames are sent to Annotate.

    • Include model predictions as pre-labels: Includes model predictions as pre-labels in all frames/images in the Collection

    • Reopen tasks: Reopens all annotation tasks on images/frames in the Collection.

      CRITICAL INFORMATION

      This action cannot be undone.

    • Leave a comment: Applies the comment on all frames/images in the Collection.

    WARNING

    Comments applied on a Collection cannot be deleted in bulk. We recommend using comments, created on a Collection, in image sequence and video Datasets.

  8. Click Submit.
    The Subset created successfully dialog appears once creation completes.

  9. Click the link in the dialog to go to the Project in Annotate.

  10. Users in Annotate can then view the priorities specified on the Collection and can access comments made in the Collection.

Note

After annotating the data, sync the Project data between Annotate and Active. To sync the Project data go to Active > [select the project] > click More > Sync Project Data.

Create a Dataset

Creating a Dataset from a Collection gives you flexibility handling your annotation Projects. You can create subsets of your entire Project's data to then attach to your exisiting Annotate Projects or create a new Annotate Project with the new Dataset attached to the Project.

Note

All Datasets and Annotate Projects created from Collections are created under the user account that sends the Collection to Annotate. This means that that user must provide access to the Datasets and Annotate Projects to other users. Even Collection creators do not have access to Datasets and Annotate Projects until the user who sends the Collection to Annotate (and creates a Dataset or Project) grants access.

To create a Dataset, based on a Collection, to Annotate:
  1. Log in to the Encord platform.
    The landing page for the Encord platform appears.

  2. Click Active in the main menu.
    The landing page for Active appears.

  3. Click the Project.
    The landing page for the Project appears with the Explorer tab selected.

  4. Click Collections.
    The Collections page appears.

  5. Select the checkbox for the Collection to send to Annotate.

  6. Click Create Dataset.
    The Create Dataset dialog appears.

  7. Specify meaningful content for the following:

    • Dataset Title

    • Dataset Description

  8. Select Split image groups/sequences to extract images from the groups or sequences and add each image separately to the Dataset, if your Collection includes images from a group or sequence.

  9. Select Create Project to create an Annotate Project with the Dataset attached and then provide meaningful content for the following:

    • Project Title

    • Project Description

  10. Select Reuse ontology of the current project to use the Ontology of the current Annotate Project in the new project.

  11. Click Create.
    The Subset created successfully dialog appears once creation completes.

Note

After annotating the data, sync the Project data between Annotate and Active. To sync the Project data go to Active > [select the project] > click More > Sync Project Data.
